Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, contains 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that features a number of luxuries on top of the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
