Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that features numerous amenities on top of the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
