Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
