Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that features many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
